“So Mary’s choice is better?” Martha asked.
“I’m glad You’re pleased she’d rather hold Your gaze
Than sweep the floor as she was duly tasked.
Don’t cleanliness and godliness enlace?
I’d like to sit and revel in Your voice
But someone has to cook a decent meal
Since You’ve arrived with twelve big hungry boys
Whose longing for good meat and bread is real.”
“I hear you, Martha,” Jesus laughed and said.
“Man does not live by sacred words alone.
Sometimes he needs a nice thick chunk of bread
And seasoned meat just falling off the bone.”
Martha took off, triumphant and merry.
Jesus looked down, and He winked at Mary.
